Book Speaking Engagements to Get More Clients

Event planners are always looking for ways to get in front of potential clients. We want them to see the value of our services and to have them book that first consultation. A great way for event planners to reach their audience is by volunteering to speak at different industry events.

There are certain wedding professionals  and event venues who hold events that attract large groups of potential clients. Caterers who hold group tastings, venues that have open house events, and bridal shop trunk shows are a few examples.  These types of events bring in many couples who are looking to make decisions about their wedding. It is the perfect place to meet potential clients if you have something of value to add to the event.

Let’s use the venue open house as an example. If you have planned events at a venue and have a relationship with the location, you can offer to create a presentation for their open houses. It could be a full presentation that is done in front of a group (i.e. potential clients) or at a table with a slide show that you staff. Either way, you and your business are there in front of all these potential clients demonstrating how you have worked with the venue. If you do not have a previous relationship, you could offer to gather their photos into a presentation about the venue and tips for planning a wedding there.

Not only does this get you in front of potential clients, but it helps build strong relationships with other vendors. If you can add something of value to their event, it shows how valuable you are as an event planner. So think creatively about what events your presence could enhance and start making those connections. If you are starting from scratch it can be a little scary to reach out at first. Remember, the worst they can say is no. So make those calls!
